What we collect, why, who helps us, how long we keep it and the choices you have. We’ve kept it plain. If anything is unclear, ask us at hello@whereweeat.co.uk.

We don’t sell personal data, use it for advertising, or make decisions about you by automated means. This site isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Emails and social media

Signing up is a two-step process. After you leave your email, we send one message asking you to confirm. Nothing more is sent unless you do, and the link expires after 48 hours.

Once confirmed, we’ll write when we’re live, and now and then with a recipe. Every email after that has an unsubscribe link, or you can email hello@whereweeat.co.uk. We keep a record of your consent so we can show you agreed, as the law expects. We won’t share your details with other companies for their marketing.

If you follow or interact with us on Instagram or YouTube, those platforms have their own privacy policies.

Work with us and people you tell us about

Messages from both forms go to our own inboxes, and only the people who make Where We Eat read them.

When you tell us about a baker, grower, fisherman or cook, please share only what’s needed for us to find them, ideally information they already make public, such as a business name and where they work. If we decide to get in touch, we’ll tell them how we came across them and delete the details if they’d rather not hear from us. If we don’t get in touch within six months, we delete the recommendation.

People we film

Where We Eat is a food show, so we film the people we meet. If you appear in our films or photographs, we’ll ask you to sign a release form first, explaining how the footage will be used and your rights. When we film in public places, we take care not to feature people who aren’t part of the story. If you have concerns about footage you appear in, contact us and we’ll do our best to help.

Cookies and your browser

Optional analytics is off until you give permission. You can accept, reject or customise your choices, and advertising features are always switched off.

Who helps us run the site

These kinds of provider process data for us, only on our instructions and under contract. We share only what each one needs.

  • our website host, in the UK, which also keeps the server logs
  • our email delivery provider, which sends our emails, delivers your form messages to us and holds the list of confirmed subscribers
  • our email host, which keeps our inboxes
  • our video streaming provider and a content delivery network, which deliver the background film
  • Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC), only with your permission

We’re happy to tell you who a particular provider is. Just ask.

When personal data leaves the UK, we rely on safeguards recognised by UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to standard contractual clauses.
